Stoddard Apartments Featured in Nebraska Public Media
Hoppe Development’s Stoddard Apartments in Beatrice, Nebraska, was recently featured in Nebraska Public Media for the innovative transformation of a former elementary school into affordable housing. The story highlights how communities across Nebraska are finding new purpose for abandoned school buildings through adaptive reuse.
Following the opening of a new elementary school in 2024, the City of Beatrice closed the former Stoddard Elementary and three other aging school buildings. Hoppe Development adopted a collaborative, preservation-forward approach to reimagine the historic school as a vibrant residential community, keeping the historic structure while creating much-needed senior housing.
The redevelopment transformed the former Stoddard Elementary School into 25 high-quality, affordable apartment homes for adults ages 55 and older.
The success of the initial phase has laid the foundation for Stoddard Place II, an expansion that will transform the remaining school grounds into 45 affordable townhome-style units for families.
