Major Renovation and Expansion of Ernie Chambers Court in North Omaha
Hoppe Development is set to begin a significant renovation and expansion of the historic Ernie Chambers Court Apartments in North Omaha, with work scheduled to start in April 2026 following final approval by the Omaha City Council.
Located between 16th and 18th streets just south of Lake Street, the project will revitalize the existing site by renovating 70 current units and adding approximately 130 new apartments—bringing fresh housing options to the neighborhood.
Community input has played an important role in shaping the redevelopment, with a focus on safety, security, and enhanced amenities. Plans include relocating laundry facilities to more secure locations and improving the overall living environment.
While the property transitions from Omaha Housing Authority ownership, existing residents will remain eligible for housing vouchers, and the renovation’s phased approach will allow many to stay in place during construction.
The new development will include a mix of market-rate and affordable units, with about 70 market-rate homes and around 60 units classified as affordable. Including market-rate units is intended to support future development by demonstrating financial viability and rental market conditions in the area.
Later phases of the project will introduce commercial space, further contributing to neighborhood activation and long-term community growth. We anticipate the area will be significantly transformed and thriving by early 2028.
